79-Year-Old Georgia Woman Killed by Amazon Driver in Tragic Hit-and-Run
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Canton, Georgia, where Sandra Fitts, 79, was struck and killed by an Amazon delivery driver while crossing the street after visiting a cemetery. The driver, identified as London Rozier Best, 25, allegedly fled the scene and continued delivering packages, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Incident Details
The tragedy occurred on Nov. 12, 2024, at around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cumming Highway and Jordan Lane. Fitts, a dedicated wife and grandmother, had been visiting her family’s cemetery plot to pay respects and feed wild cats.
Authorities say Fitts likely died instantly after being hit by a Rivian Amazon delivery vehicle. Law enforcement later discovered the damaged truck on Bishop Drive, confirming it as the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
“It appears that he knows what happened and he actually continued to deliver packages in the area,” said Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jay Baker.
Charges and Investigation
Best faces felony charges of first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death. Authorities revealed that he might have avoided serious charges had he stopped to report the incident, as it was dark and Fitts was crossing the highway.
In addition to the hit-and-run charges, a search of the Amazon vehicle uncovered drugs and paraphernalia, leading to additional charges.
Amazon expressed condolences to the victim’s family and stated that Best would be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Remembering Sandra Fitts
Sandra Fitts’ obituary described her as a devoted wife of 60 years, a loving grandmother, and an animal lover with a passion for family gatherings and keeping a tidy home. Her family expressed deep grief over the senseless loss.
