A 26-year-old
A 26-year old man in Arizona, Hein Lwin, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 2-year-old stepchild by beating the boy to death. Lwin is currently facing charges of premeditated first-degree murder in the child’s slaying after admitting to authorities that he physically abused the child multiple times, causing serious injuries that ultimately led to the child's tragic passing.
The incident unfolded in October when Peoria Police Department officers responded to a call at an apartment complex near 108th Avenue and Olive Avenue. Lwin initially claimed the child was choking on a cloth, but upon further investigation, it was revealed that he had physically abused the child. The toddler was transported to a local hospital but sadly passed away on October 27, 2024. Detectives amended the charges to First-Degree Murder while Lwin was still in custody.
According to a probable cause affidavit, police and medics noticed ligature marks on the victim's neck when they arrived at Lwin’s home. During a subsequent interview with detectives, Lwin confessed to hitting the child in the head multiple times and engaging in roughhousing activities that caused the child's injuries. Lwin admitted to being frustrated and taking out his anger on the stepson, describing the child as "a lot."
Lwin claimed to have left the child napping and went to the gym, but later admitted to striking the child, tossing him onto the bed, and causing the boy to hit his head multiple times. Despite attempting to help the child after the injuries, Lwin eventually called for assistance when the child had difficulty breathing.
Lwin was initially booked on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault on a child, and child abuse before the charges were upgraded to murder. He is now being held in the Maricopa County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment proceeding.
