A devastating and horrific incident unfolded in Pompano Beach, Florida, on a Saturday morning in the 100 block of S.W. Eighth Street. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office reported that a 29-year-old woman, Brenda Hernandez Amaya, tragically lost her life after being run over by a pickup truck allegedly driven by her partner, 32-year-old Edwin Amaya. The scene was described as traumatizing, with the victim's young daughter and horrified neighbors witnessing the shocking event.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded swiftly to the scene, where they found two victims - Brenda Hernandez Amaya and a 32-year-old man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Hernandez Amaya was pronounced dead at the hospital, leaving behind two children, including her 10-year-old daughter who watched the tragic incident unfold.

According to detectives, the altercation between Hernandez-Amaya and Edwin Amaya escalated over their shared child in the parking lot of an apartment complex. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Amaya allegedly backed up his Ford F-250 truck and then intentionally drove towards Hernandez-Amaya, running her over. The male victim tried to intervene but was unable to prevent the horrific act.

After striking parked cars, Amaya fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement officers. Reports from neighbors indicated that Amaya was intoxicated during the incident, adding another layer of tragedy to the already devastating situation. The victim's family disclosed to Miami NBC affiliate WTVJ that she and Amaya shared a 2-year-old son.

Edwin Amaya now faces a premeditated murder charge and is currently detained at Broward County Jail without bond. This senseless act of violence has shaken the community and serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of unchecked anger and aggression.

Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of Brenda Hernandez Amaya during this unimaginably difficult time. May they find strength and support in the face of such a heartbreaking loss.
