The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland was met with a harrowing scene on August 25th when they responded to a shooting at a residence on Mandalong Ct. in New Market. Inside the home, deputies discovered the lifeless bodies of Crimea Malita Baker and Sean Antoine Lange. The victims were 33 and 34 years old respectively, and tragically, they were the parents to four children who were present during the ordeal. The children, all under the age of 13, managed to escape unscathed by hiding in a closet until they felt it was safe to emerge. One of the children bravely stepped out and made the distressing discovery, prompting a call for help.
A month-long investigation led law enforcement to identify David Phillip Turner, a 33-year-old individual from Miami and the father of three of the children, as the prime suspect in the appalling crime. Turner had previously been in a relationship with Baker and allegedly harbored animosity towards her and her current boyfriend, Lange. He reportedly drove from Florida to Maryland and forcibly entered the residence before fatally shooting the victims in an upstairs bedroom in the early hours of August 25th. Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins described the incident as a "heinous, targeted double murder" fueled by intense emotions.
Following the extensive investigation and manhunt, Turner was apprehended by authorities in Florida, with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and FBI contributing to his capture. Currently detained at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Jail, Turner is facing grave charges including first-degree murder, home invasion, and two counts of using a firearm during a violent crime or felony. Extradition proceedings are underway to return him to Maryland to face justice for his alleged actions that have left a community reeling from the tragic loss of the victims and the traumatic experience endured by the surviving children.
