A 68-year-old man named Timothy Bartlett from Deltona, Florida, has been arrested for posing as a woman with breast cancer and defrauding nonprofit organizations that provide assistance to cancer patients in need. Bartlett stole $5,000 in aid from at least one Florida nonprofit and targeted organizations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Wisconsin with the same scam. His deceitful actions have outraged authorities and the community, with Sheriff Mike Chitwood of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office condemning Bartlett as a "scumbag" who took advantage of funds meant for those fighting cancer. The elaborate scheme involved Bartlett using false identities, fake addresses, and fraudulent applications to deceive the nonprofits into providing financial help that he did not deserve. Despite initially contacting these nonprofits under the pseudonym "Sally Holmes," a tip from an anonymous source revealed Bartlett's true intentions, prompting an investigation that uncovered his deceptive practices. Bartlett now faces charges of organized scheme to defraud under $20,000 and grand theft, along with a misdemeanor for operating a vehicle with a suspended license. The authorities are committed to pursuing justice for the victims of Bartlett's heartless exploitation and ensuring that he is held accountable for his reprehensible actions.
