Hawaii Woman Missing After Alarming Texts: Family Fears for Her Safety

A Hawaii woman who vanished after missing her connecting flight in Los Angeles sent unsettling text messages before disappearing, her family reports.

Hannah Kobayashi, 30, has not been seen since Friday, Nov. 8. She had flown from Honolulu to Los Angeles en route to New York City, where she planned to explore the art scene as an aspiring photographer. However, she never boarded her connecting flight.

In her final messages to family on Nov. 11, Kobayashi expressed fear and suspicion. “Hannah’s last message to us was alarming — she mentioned feeling scared and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity,” her relative, Larie Pidgeon, wrote on Facebook on Nov. 14.

Pidgeon explained that Hannah had been saving for her New York trip, but her sudden silence has left loved ones worried. Hannah’s texts also raised concerns about someone exploiting her financially. “I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds for someone I thought I loved,” one text sent to a friend read, according to KHNL.

Hannah’s sister, Sydni Kobayashi, found the messages out of character, saying, “It doesn’t sound like her … there’s just something off about it.”

Family members say Hannah’s phone last pinged at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 before all communication ceased. Security footage reportedly shows her in downtown Los Angeles near Pico Boulevard and Hill Street, according to NBC News.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that a missing persons report was filed. Family and friends have launched a Facebook group, Help Us Find Hannah, and a GoFundMe campaign to support search efforts.

Hannah’s cousin, Emi Ko, wrote on the fundraising page, “Her movements have been unclear, her phone has been shut off, and her family and friends have been working tirelessly to retrace her steps.”

Authorities and family remain desperate for information about Hannah’s whereabouts.
