Facing Domestic Battery and Neglect Charges

A 20-year-old pregnant mother from Indiana is accused of nearly killing her 1-year-old daughter after allegedly throwing the child because she "couldn’t handle" the crying. The incident left the baby with severe head and brain injuries that required emergency surgery.

Alexandria G. Ring was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of domestic battery against a family member under the age of 14 and one count of neglect of a dependent, according to authorities.

Unfolding Events Leading to the Arrest

According to the Evansville, Indiana, Police Department, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive child at approximately 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. The incident occurred at a residence in the 1500 block of S. Kentucky Avenue, located roughly 165 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

Upon arrival, first responders transported the child to a local hospital, where medical staff identified severe head injuries, including cranial bleeding and swelling. These injuries required emergency surgery to reduce brain pressure. Bruises were also noted on the child's forehead, behind her ears, arms, stomach, and buttocks.

Alleged Confession

During an interview with police, Ring allegedly admitted to causing her daughter’s injuries. She reportedly told detectives that the baby had soiled her diaper around 2 p.m., and after changing her, the infant began crying. Ring claimed the crying "set her off."

According to the police report, Ring said she held her daughter over a Pack ‘n Play and "threw her in it." She later changed her account, citing her pregnancy as a factor. Ring, who is 30 weeks pregnant, claimed her large belly made it difficult to place the child in the playpen, leading to an accidental drop. She also stated that the child fell face-first into a cabinet, striking her head on a metal piece, which she alleged caused the bruising.

Delayed Medical Attention

The situation worsened as Ring delayed seeking medical help for her child. Despite observing the baby becoming lethargic and falling in and out of consciousness, Ring did not call 911 until 5:23 p.m. when her boyfriend returned home from work. Before that, she reportedly expressed concern about the child’s condition but failed to act.

Legal Proceedings

Ring is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail with a cash-only bond of $15,000. She has been ordered to have no contact with her daughter. An initial hearing is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 25, 2024.
