A horrific incident unfolded at an Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) office, where 32-year-old De’Andre Terrell Johnson was arrested for attacking a caseworker in a violent manner. The assault, which was broadcast live on social media, took place at "The Mesa Tower" in Mesa, Arizona.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing Johnson choking another man, later identified as a DCS caseworker, in the building's lobby. Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find the victim with significant facial injuries, indicating a brutal attack. The chilling encounter was captured on video, showing Johnson putting the victim in a chokehold, threatening his life, and ultimately leaving him unconscious on the floor.

Reports indicate that the victim, involved in a case concerning Johnson's daughter, had a peaceful discussion with Johnson before the sudden escalation of violence. The disturbing footage displayed Johnson's alarming behavior, as he repeatedly choked the caseworker, disregarding the pleas of onlookers to release him.

After the assault, Johnson fled the scene in his vehicle, leading police on a chase through Scottsdale. Despite efforts to stop him, Johnson's reckless behavior persisted, resulting in his eventual arrest for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

The injured caseworker, who narrowly survived the harrowing ordeal, recounted previous interactions with Johnson, including a prior threat of violence. Medical professionals emphasized the severity of the injuries suffered by the victim, emphasizing the life-threatening nature of the attack.

This shocking incident has raised renewed concerns about the safety of DCS staff during interactions with families and clients. Issues of inadequate security measures, exacerbated by budget cuts that eliminated security guards at DCS offices, have prompted calls for increased safeguards for frontline workers.

DCS Deputy Director David Lujan expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the inherent dangers faced by caseworkers in performing their critical duties. The agency is committed to enhancing safety protocols and advocating for additional resources to protect staff members from potential threats.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this distressing event, there is a collective call for greater awareness of the risks faced by those working to safeguard the well-being of children and families in Arizona.
