Murder Suspect Adlai Mestre Attempts Escape After Allegedly Killing His Family in New Mexico

Disturbing video footage has surfaced showing a murder suspect's attempt to flee an interrogation room after allegedly murdering his entire family. Adlai Mestre, 24, is believed to have shot and killed his mother, father, 17-year-old sister, and their family dog in their Tijeras, New Mexico home nearly a month ago.


Authorities with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office released chilling video footage capturing Mestre’s arrest and his desperate attempt to escape after being left unattended in the interrogation room, hours following the horrific massacre. In the video, Mestre can be heard praying aloud, saying, "Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father, please bring peace to the others," before kicking through a wall in an apparent attempt to flee.



Court documents reveal disturbing statements from Mestre, including references to "killing them" and "hearing seismic waves" at the time of his arrest. Deputies found him holding a loaded gun and reportedly asking if the bodies had been discovered.

Mestre’s History of Mental Health Struggles Mestre has a known history of mental health issues. His older sister, who was not in the home at the time of the killings, revealed that he had been "hearing voices" and had been neglecting to take his medication. In heartbreaking bodycam footage, an officer informs her that her entire family has been killed by her brother. Through tears, she confirmed that her brother had been struggling with his mental health.


Tragic Details of the Killings Mestre allegedly killed his mother, Bertha (51), his father, Raymundo (46), his sister, Brielle (17), and their family dog on Sunday, October 13, 2024. He now faces multiple charges, including murder, tampering with evidence, and attempting to escape police custody.


Current Status and Evaluation Mestre is currently in custody while authorities evaluate his mental state to determine whether he is competent to stand trial.

Honoring Victim Brielle Mestre. In the wake of the tragedy, the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation has established the "Brielle Mestre Memorial Scholarship Fund" to honor the 17-year-old victim. The scholarship will be awarded to a child in the foundation who exemplifies Brielle's qualities of inclusion, leadership, and kindness.
