Indiana State Police (ISP) reported that a Springfield Township woman wanted in connection with her wife's murder was fatally shot by troopers following a police chase in Clinton County, Indiana, on Monday.
Details of the Incident
Terea Brown, 42, was wanted in connection with the death of her wife, 33-year-old LaCresha Black. The couple had been married since December 2023. According to Springfield Township Police, officers responded to a shooting report on the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue just after 7 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, they found Black outside her residence with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witness Accounts
Neighbor Linda Sayles recounted the terrifying morning, saying, "They knocked on the door and told me there was a bullet hole in my window." Sayles described seeing crime tape and police officers at the scene, as well as showing a bullet hole in her back window.
"I’m so thankful I was sleeping in the back of the house. I’m especially grateful my grandkids weren’t here because they spend most of their time in that area," Sayles added.
A man who called 911 stated he found Black and identified her as his caretaker. While he didn’t recognize the shooter’s name, he mentioned having seen her at the residence before.
Suspect Identified and Pursuit
Detectives identified Brown as the primary suspect. She reportedly fled the scene in a dark-colored 2014 Chevrolet Cruze before authorities arrived.
Around 9:30 a.m. on the same day, Indiana State Police troopers located Brown driving the vehicle on I-65 in Clinton County. Attempts to pull her over led to a police chase. Brown eventually exited the interstate and stopped her car on a county road near State Route 28, where the fatal encounter with troopers occurred.
The case remains under investigation by authorities in both Ohio and Indiana.
