In a heartbreaking turn of events, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the Tulip Drive area on October 27, 2024, for a report of an unresponsive infant. Deputy Patrick Martin arrived to find individuals attempting CPR on the infant, with whom he quickly took over life-saving measures until EMS arrived. Despite valiant efforts, the infant, later identified as 13-month-old Amere Lemon Jr., tragically did not recover.
Following a thorough investigation by the Juvenile Investigative Division, it was revealed that Amere had been left in his car seat unattended for several hours, leading to his untimely demise. The daycare director, Sarah Sonnier, was subsequently charged with Negligent Homicide in connection with the incident.
This sobering tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of responsible childcare practices and vigilance in ensuring the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable members of society. Let us honor Amere's memory by advocating for greater awareness and prevention of such heart-wrenching occurrences.
