A Virginia woman allegedly incited a violent attack over a dispute about a pizza order, leading to her husband reportedly stabbing and disemboweling an employee, according to police reports.
Catherine Harper, 45, called her husband, Corey Harper, 47, after an argument with a 24-year-old employee at Mod Pizza in Norfolk, Virginia, and instructed him to "handle the situation," police allege. The confrontation escalated into a brutal mid-day attack, described in graphic detail in court documents obtained by WAVY.
The employee was stabbed multiple times in the back and front, with one severe cut exposing their intestines, according to the report. After the assault, Corey Harper and Catherine Harper fled the scene, authorities said.
Both were arraigned on Monday and denied bond. Corey Harper faces felony charges of malicious wounding and brandishing a firearm, while Catherine Harper is charged with conspiracy to commit malicious wounding. The couple is scheduled to appear in court again on January 14.
Mod Pizza expressed shock and concern over the incident in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to a safe and positive environment. “We were dismayed to learn about an argument inside our Norfolk-area Lake Wright restaurant involving one of our employees and two guests,” the statement read. The company added that they are cooperating with law enforcement and focusing on supporting the injured employee, who remains hospitalized.
“Moments like these force organizations to re-examine employee training and look for ways to reinforce values and expectations,” Mod Pizza stated, reaffirming their zero-tolerance policy for behavior that escalates conflicts. The company pledged to conduct a thorough review of the incident while the investigation continues.
