A Tennessee woman has been apprehended by the police for allegedly setting her ex-boyfriend's bed on fire, endangering the lives of his new girlfriend and her baby. The incident occurred in March, and the suspect, Derica Wiggins, has since been charged with aggravated assault and arson. The girlfriend detected a person peering into their bedroom moments before waking up to the bed engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the boyfriend managed to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived. Wiggins was later confronted by the boyfriend outside their house and subsequently apprehended by the authorities.
In a shocking turn of events, surveillance footage from a Ring camera revealed Wiggins entering and leaving the residence. The bedroom suffered damages as a result of the fire. In addition to the initial charges, Wiggins also faces allegations of reckless burning and setting fire to personal property. She is currently being held on a $150,000 bond at Shelby County jail and is scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers for individuals involved in contentious relationships. The quick actions of the boyfriend prevented a more catastrophic outcome in this case. The legal system will now take its course as authorities continue to investigate the motive behind this reckless act.
