Police in Downtown Dallas responded to reports of a shooting involving singer Jada Arnell Thomas, 26, shortly before 6 p.m. on a Saturday evening following a performance at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Witnesses revealed that Micah Williams, a 26-year-old woman, had attended the concert and then shot Thomas in the chest while she was signing autographs.

Around 200 individuals were present during the performance, and multiple witnesses attested to seeing Williams shoot Thomas before fleeing the scene. Curtis King, the academy's founder, pursued Williams to a nearby hotel, where she was apprehended by officers. Williams was found with a handgun in her purse and later confessed to the shooting. She claimed that her actions were provoked by alleged harassment from the victim in the past, a claim that has yet to be verified by authorities.

Although Thomas is still recovering in the hospital and unable to provide a statement to investigators, her condition is slowly improving. In response to the incident, security measures are being strengthened at the academy, including the installation of metal detectors and decreasing the number of entrances.

Williams has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently detained in the Dallas County Jail. Meanwhile, performances scheduled for the academy were canceled temporarily as the community grapples with the aftermath of the shooting. As the investigation continues, the motive behind the crime remains under scrutiny, leaving many unanswered questions and a sense of shock within the community.
