Enfield, CT (SRE) - On March 17th, 2026, Melanie Federline contacted law enforcement because her daughter, Eve Rogers, was found lying unconscious on her bedroom floor. She informed 911 she last saw her daughter the night before between 10 and 10:30 pm. She said Eve’s bedroom door was locked at the time, but locking the door was not unusual or a cause for concern.

Melanie stated the next morning she attempted to wake her daughter. However, she received no response, so she used a butter knife to open the door. Once inside, she found Eve face down. She stated that she turned Eve over, noticed her face, and ran to get her husband, Antony Federline, for assistance.

Once law enforcement arrived at the residence, they spoke with Melanie, Anthony, and Eve’s 17-year-old brother. Officers entered the bedroom and found Eve lying on the bedroom floor. She was partially unclothed, and the bottom half of her body was covered with a blanket. The investigators also documented blood or fluid around her nose, discoloration, and indications of rigor mortis.

The warrant states investigators discovered two pills on the floor near the bedroom door. Another pill that appeared to be aspirin was found on her desk, and her laptop was open with YouTube playing. As the investigation proceeded, it shifted from an unconscious child to a sexual assault investigation. A sexual assault collection examination was performed before Eve’s autopsy, and DNA analysis identified Anthony Federline as a contributor to a collected sample. Enfield investigators initiated a warrant for Anthony after investigators received forensic results identifying his DNA as a contributor from a genital swab. The medical examiner determined the sexual assault appeared to have occurred one to three days prior to her death.

On April 2nd, Anthony Federline was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. Days later, investigators conducted a search warrant on the home. Once investigators entered the home, they discovered medications throughout the home, including the children’s bedroom. They also found a sleep aid bottle with 3 of 250 capsules remaining. The warrant states investigators also recovered electronic evidence and a journal with pages titled “MY SAFETY PLAN” and “MOOD DISORDER QUESTIONNAIRE”. The investigation uncovered a Samsung cellular device belonging to Eve’s teenage brother and an Amazon tablet. Investigators also examined the HP laptop, which was playing YouTube when they found Eve.

As investigators learned more about the family, it was discovered that in September 2022, Melanie Federline notified the school that Eve would be homeschooled for the foreseeable future. This prompted the state legislature to enact Public Act 26-37 (House Bill 5468). The Connecticut bill redefines home education as “Parent Managed Learning”. Parents must appear in person at the district office to withdraw their children and homeschool them. The district will initiate a mandatory background check and a registry check for adults residing in the residence, completed by the Department of Children and Families. In addition, parents must file an annual intent to educate form.

Investigators once again spoke with Melanie; she stated that she and Anthony often stored medication in a lockbox in the basement for two to three months. She stated Eve often misused medication that belonged to family members. Investigators later discovered that one week before Eve’s body was discovered in her bedroom, she had interacted with law enforcement. She was found her walking in the early morning hours, and she admitted to taking a Monster drink from a Mobil station without paying, and an officer gave her a courtesy ride home.

In July, toxicology reports were completed, identifying a diphenhydramine concentration of 23,000 nanograms per milliliter in Eve’s blood. The medical examiner determined Eve died from acute intoxication involving diphenhydramine, fluoxetine, and bupropion. However, the manner of death remains classified as undetermined (overdose with undetermined intent). After the toxicology findings, Melanie was arrested on charges of risk to a child. Her bond is set at $250,000, and an arraignment is scheduled for November 2nd. Prior to her arrest, Melanie filed for divorce, citing irretrievable differences.

The investigation into the death of 12-year-old Eve Rogers remains ongoing, with serious questions surrounding the circumstances of her fatal overdose, criminal charges against her mother and stepfather, and the involvement of child protective services.
