DETROIT, MICHIGAN- A Detroit teenager has come forward with a powerful and emotional testimony, alleging years of abuse, trauma, and systemic failure inside her own home. The teen, who identifies herself as NaeNae, publicly shared her story in a now-viral Facebook post, revealing what she says was a childhood shaped by violence, control, and silence.
In her post, NaeNae accuses her mother and stepfather, Sidney, of inflicting years of physical and emotional abuse on her and her younger brothers. She claims the abuse began when she was just ten years old, after her mother allowed Sidney to move into their lives. What started as discipline soon became extreme, she said, recounting being beaten with belts, wooden bed slats, and tree branches. Her brothers, including one as young as two at the time, were also allegedly targeted.
She describes being punished for minor or fabricated reasons—forced to stand in corners for hours or endure beatings that left visible injuries. One brother was allegedly choked until he defecated himself. Another, she said, was made to drink mop water. NaeNae also shared that teachers noticed signs of abuse, including a time when she was forced to wear makeup and a mask to cover a black eye, but that nothing was done to protect her.
“My teacher even asked me if everything was okay at home. I lied because the last time I told the school, they sent me back home,” she wrote.
According to NaeNae, the abuse escalated as she got older, especially as she tried to reconnect with her father, who she says was the only person who ever made her feel safe. When her father confronted Sidney and demanded to take the kids, NaeNae says Sidney pointed a firearm at him. She called the police in fear, but claims her mother lied to authorities, resulting in her father being detained, and her being forced to stay in the home where she felt unsafe.
Over the years, NaeNae says she experienced physical violence from both her mother and Sidney. She describes being slapped, shoved, and even choked, resulting in burst blood vessels in her eyes on more than one occasion. When she confided in her mother about how she felt, she says her mother mocked her, dismissed her feelings, and told her that her father didn’t love her.
“She told me that if I didn’t change, she’d kick me out. She laughed at me when the school called about what I wrote in a suicide note,” NaeNae shared.
The teen also made serious allegations of inappropriate behavior by Sidney, saying that he used punishments to isolate her and scare her into silence. While she did not describe explicit acts in full detail, she claims Sidney’s behavior crossed boundaries that made her feel unsafe and violated. She said he would use his firearm as a threat to silence her, and that he would stand over her in ways that left her terrified.
One of the most chilling parts of her post was when she said she witnessed Sidney changing her baby sister’s diaper and noticed what she believed to be inappropriate behavior. After that, she says, the house's tension worsened, and she feared what might happen as her sister grew older.
“I’m scared it’s only a matter of time before my siblings go through what I went through. And I’m especially scared for my baby sister. I don’t want her to feel that pain.”
Despite running away and reporting some of her experiences to law enforcement, NaeNae said she was returned to her mother’s custody after officers failed to recognize the signs of abuse. She believes her mother eventually sent her away only to silence her, not to protect her. She said her real social media accounts were blocked, and that she had to use a backup just to get her story out to the public.
NaeNae ended her post with a strong and clear message: she no longer stays silent. Inspired by others on social media who found the courage to share their stories, she says she is determined to protect her siblings and reclaim her voice.
“I’m tired of being in this situation, and I’m not about to let my siblings go through it too. If the police can’t help me, I’m going to make a change on my own. Not just for me but for my family too.”
Authorities in Detroit have not made a public statement regarding this case yet. However, the online response to her post has been swift and vocal, with thousands calling for immediate intervention by child protective services and local law enforcement.
I believe this poor girl. Mother's lately have not been doing what they need to do to protect their children against these monsters called boyfriends and it's sad
OH WOW 😮 WHAT A POWERFUL TESTIMONY 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is so sad I pray that she will be able to heal in a healthy way and then she will get the validation from other adults for being able to be strong enough to speak out.
