Family Pleads for Mother, Wanted in Death of 3-Year-Old Boy, to Surrender Amid Manhunt in NYC

The family of a 3-year-old boy found dead at a Brooklyn hospital has urgently pleaded with his mother, who is the subject of an intense search by New York City police, to surrender herself, fearing she may be in danger.

Authorities say Sunshine Davis left her child, identified as 3-year-old Khyair Davis, at Downstate Hospital early Saturday morning along with a man described as her partner. According to officials, the toddler, who arrived unresponsive at the facility, was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.

Sabrina Johnson, the boy's godmother, emotionally urged Davis to come forward safely through media interviews. “Sunshine, if you see this, please turn yourself in,” Johnson pleaded tearfully. It's safer for you to voluntarily explain your side rather than for authorities to find you in hiding.”

Johnson also expressed deep concern for Davis's well-being, claiming she has been in trouble since entering a relationship with an unidentified older man. “She is not safe, she’s not okay,” Johnson said. “She got involved with someone much older, and things haven't been right since then.”

The tragic events unfolded on Saturday morning when the child's lifeless body was dropped off at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Investigators identified the victim as 3-year-old Kyro Davis, though authorities are still determining exactly how long he had been deceased prior to arriving at the hospital. The NYPD indicated uncertainty regarding whether the child’s body showed signs of physical trauma or if the discoloration was due to postmortem lividity—coloration that appears after death.

Kyro’s grandmother, Kanyatta Foster, also publicly shared her heartbreak. “I’m devastated. I don't know what to do right now,” she expressed. Foster had previously attempted to gain custody of Kyro, expressing worries for his safety. Court sources confirm that despite her concerns, a judge denied her custody request.

Authorities have launched an extensive search for Davis and the unidentified man who reportedly dropped off the child at the hospital. Family members say Davis recently began a relationship with this older man, and now worry that she herself may be at serious risk.
