Tallahassee, FL – Nearly two years after 12-year-old Lori Paige vanished from her home, authorities have confirmed the tragic discovery of her remains and arrested her father, 36-year-old Andrew Wiley, on charges of second-degree murder.
Lori, a Griffin Middle School student known for her academic excellence and resilience despite a troubled home life, was last seen on June 3, 2023. At the time, Wiley claimed his daughter had left their residence on Continental Court overnight with a backpack while he was at work. The case quickly gained regional attention, prompting searches across Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Despite these efforts, Lori remained missing for nearly two years.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell announced on April 11, 2025, that Lori’s remains were recovered in a remote, brush-covered area of Thomas County, Georgia. The breakthrough came after a prescribed burn cleared underbrush in the area, allowing cadaver dog Kairos from the North Florida Search Team to locate the body. DNA testing confirmed the remains as Lori Paige.
"I told you two years ago we would bring Lori home and hold those responsible accountable," said Revell at a press conference, calling it both a moment of closure and profound sorrow.
The investigation into Lori’s disappearance revealed multiple red flags. Wiley’s story began to unravel as inconsistencies emerged. In February 2024, investigators seized his phone, uncovering disturbing internet searches such as “how to dispose of a body in a lake” and “remote wooded areas in Alabama and Georgia.”
Authorities then began conducting targeted searches in Thomas County, Georgia, eventually leading to the discovery of Lori’s remains.
Lori’s death has left a deep impact on her community. Her teachers and classmates described her as a bright, dedicated student who attended school barefoot after a previous runaway attempt simply because she didn’t want to miss class.
“She had such drive and commitment,” said Griffin Middle School paraprofessional Margie Summers. “She was trying to improve her ‘A’ in civics, bringing in a trifold board with tiny American flags glued to it. She was special.”
Wiley, now in custody, has not made a public statement. He is expected to face trial in the coming months, and forensic evidence and digital records will play a central role in the prosecution.
This case has reignited discussions about systemic failures in child welfare and law enforcement response times. Lori had a prior history with the Department of Children and Families, and her mother has publicly criticized the TPD's initial handling of the case.
Community advocates say while the resolution brings a measure of closure, the work to protect vulnerable children must continue. "We are heartbroken," said Rudy Ferguson, a neighborhood advocate. “But we will honor Lori by fighting for change.”
