Shaneeka Harris, 39, has been charged with second-degree murder after fatally shooting her husband and injuring her son during an argument in their Miami Gardens home.

Miami Gardens, Florida — A Florida mother is behind bars after a tragic domestic dispute turned deadly inside her home, leaving her husband dead and her teenage son wounded by gunfire.

Authorities arrested 39-year-old Shaneeka Daschell Harris on Friday morning, charging her with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the fatal shooting of her husband, 41-year-old Aaron Swatts. The altercation also resulted in the accidental shooting of her 15-year-old son, who sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh.

According to the Miami Gardens Police Department, officers responded to a call reporting gunshots at a residence located at 19000 NW 46th Avenue at approximately 6:40 a.m. on April 19. Upon arrival, officers observed movement in an upstairs window and ordered anyone inside to exit the home.

The first person to emerge was Harris’s older son, identified in court records as “J.T.” He told officers that his younger brother, identified as “T.T.,” had been shot in the foot. Moments later, Harris and the injured teen came out of the house. The 15-year-old was suffering from a gunshot wound to the thigh and was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he received treatment and was later released.

Harris informed authorities that her husband was still inside the home. Officers entered and conducted a security sweep, locating Swatts unresponsive in an upstairs hallway just outside a bedroom. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his back. Despite life-saving efforts, Swatts was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument between Harris and Swatts that quickly escalated. According to statements from Harris’s children, their mother fired a warning shot during the confrontation before allegedly shooting Swatts and unintentionally striking her son in the process.

At the scene, detectives recovered three spent shell casings and a black 9mm Walther CCP handgun. The firearm, which holds eight rounds, still contained five live bullets.

Court documents revealed that it was Harris’s older son who called 911. During the call, a woman—believed to be Harris—can be heard in the background shouting, “This man made me shoot my [expletive] son.” Investigators later confirmed that the voice on the call was hers.

Harris and Swatts had been married since 2022. Harris has four children, all from a previous marriage.

She is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
