A Florida woman seeking to purchase fentanyl ended up texting a narcotics investigator instead of her dealer, leading to her arrest on multiple charges.
On December 31, 2023, 41-year-old Octavia Wells from Panama City mistakenly contacted a narcotics investigator from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office while attempting to arrange a drug deal. According to authorities, Wells was trying to obtain fentanyl before leaving town.
Recognizing the opportunity, the investigator posed as a dealer and coordinated a meeting with Wells at a local gas station. When she arrived, she was met by members of the Bay County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division, who arrested her.
Wells now faces several charges, including unlawful use of a two-way communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office shared the incident on its official Facebook page, where community members reacted. One commenter wrote, “I hope she gets the help she needs...Fentanyl is deadly.”
