Laurens County Woman Charged with Identity Fraud and Assault at Waterloo Elementary
Authorities in Laurens County have arrested Bryia Lattimore Scott, 31, of Simpsonville, for identity fraud and unlawful conduct toward a child following a series of troubling incidents at Waterloo Elementary School.
Employment Under False Identity
Scott, posing as โViola Church,โ was employed through the
Laurens District 55 school system. The district contacted the Laurens County Sheriffโs Office (LCSO) after discovering that Scott had impersonated another individual to secure her employment.
Following an investigation, Scott was arrested on December 19, 2024, and charged with Identity Fraud to Unlawfully Obtain Employment.
Assault Allegation Against a Special Needs Student
On December 20, 2024, a concerned parent alerted the LCSO about a separate incident involving Scott and a child in her classroom. Upon further investigation by the Criminal Investigations Unit, it was determined that Scott had assaulted a special needs student on December 18, 2024.
The assault was initially reported to school administrators on the same day by aides who witnessed the incident. Scott was subsequently arrested again on December 30, 2024, and charged with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child.
Ongoing Investigation
The Laurens County Sheriffโs Office has confirmed that investigations into Scottโs actions are ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to these incidents to come forward.
Statement from the Sheriffโs Office:โThis type of behavior, particularly in a school setting, is unacceptable and will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. We will continue to investigate and ensure justice is served.โ

Laurens District 55 is reviewing its hiring procedures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
