SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA- A Louisiana mother is facing serious criminal charges after she allegedly tried to run over a group of children outside a local elementary school in an alarming act of retaliation following a playground fight involving her child.

Lejonkica Sharp was arrested by the Shreveport Police Department on May 1, 2025, and charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle, after investigators say she used her car in an attempt to strike six elementary-aged students who were fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred on the evening of April 29, shortly after 8 p.m., near Pine Grove Elementary School.

According to police, the chaos began after an altercation involving Sharp’s child and other students. Rather than contacting school staff or law enforcement, Sharp allegedly arrived at the school in a separate vehicle and brought along several juveniles with the intent to confront the other children.

Witnesses told police that once the other children attempted to flee the area, Sharp reportedly got back into her car and drove toward the group at high speed, appearing to try to hit them intentionally.

A patrol officer assigned to Pine Grove Elementary reviewed school surveillance footage shortly after the incident. The video, according to police, clearly showed Sharp attempting to run over the children, despite her later denial.

During the investigation, Sharp claimed that the children were throwing rocks at her vehicle and denied any intent to cause harm. However, officers say the footage contradicted her account and demonstrated an apparent attempt to strike six young students.

Fortunately, none of the children were injured, but officers emphasized the potential for serious harm and took immediate steps to secure a warrant for Sharp’s arrest.

Sharp was located and taken into custody on May 1 around 7 p.m. She was booked into the local detention center and is now facing six felony charges.

In a public statement, the Shreveport Police Department commended the Caddo Parish School Board for its assistance in the investigation and for helping to bring the suspect into custody quickly.

“We are thankful that no children were seriously injured during this alarming incident,” SPD stated. “The Shreveport Police Department would like to thank the Caddo Parish School Board for their cooperation and support during this investigation. Their assistance was instrumental in ensuring a prompt and successful resolution.”

The incident has sparked renewed concerns about school safety and parental responsibility, especially when minor altercations between students escalate into violent adult retaliation.

Local parents expressed relief that no children were harmed but called for stronger safety measures and clearer communication protocols between schools and law enforcement in the event of conflicts.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges could be filed depending on further evidence or testimony.
