Missouri Mom Accused of Multistate Shooting Spree Targeting Fathers of Her Children
A Missouri woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly embarking on a violent multistate shooting spree, killing the fathers of her children—one fatally—and a woman who was dating one of them, according to police.
Taylor Santiago, 31, of Aurora, Missouri, has been charged with first-degree murder, robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the January 23 attacks. Police say the incidents, which occurred in Missouri and Arkansas, were rooted in custody disputes with the victims.
Confession and Arrest
The Aurora-Marionville Police Department reported that Santiago arrived at the Aurora Police and Fire Facility around 1:45 a.m. on January 23. From the parking lot, she called police to report that she had just killed her estranged husband, 37-year-old Troy Huffman, at her apartment. Officers immediately detained Santiago and went to her residence, where they found Huffman deceased.
While in custody, Santiago allegedly confessed to another shooting earlier that day in Arkansas. According to authorities, she drove across state lines to target the biological father of her other child and the man’s girlfriend.
Both were shot, and the girlfriend tragically died. The man was critically injured but survived. Police confirmed that Santiago’s young daughter was present during the Arkansas shooting, though the child was unharmed.
After the double shooting, Santiago drove back to Aurora, Missouri, where she turned herself in to authorities. Aurora Police Chief Wes Coatney expressed relief that she surrendered but wished she had sought help before the shootings. “I’m glad she did [turn herself in]. I wish she would’ve come to us before she did all of this so we could’ve helped her,” Coatney told local media.
Legal Proceedings
Santiago remains in custody at the Lawrence County Jail without bond. Online records show that she shared a son with Huffman, the father killed in Aurora. Her child endangerment charge stems from her daughter being present during the Arkansas shooting.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic killings.
