ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA- A 34-year-old Minnesota man is facing second-degree murder charges after authorities say he fatally stabbed his girlfriend in a jealous rage upon discovering she was romantically involved with another man. Joseph Davis is accused of killing 33-year-old Christine Morris inside their St. Paul home while their 2-year-old daughter was present.

Police were called to the home on the 300 block of Edmund Avenue early Friday for a welfare check after Davis allegedly phoned a family member and confessed to the murder, saying he was “sorry.” When officers arrived, they found the couple’s toddler sitting alone on the couch and the family dog barking inside the home. Upstairs, they discovered Morris's lifeless body under a blanket with multiple stab wounds to her head, chest, neck, and back.

The medical examiner confirmed that Morris had suffered fatal injuries to her lung, spleen, and kidney caused by sharp force trauma. Investigators later recovered Morris’ phone, which Davis had discarded at a nearby park before fleeing the scene.

According to the affidavit, Morris had previously confided in friends that Davis would be responsible if anything happened to her or her child. She had been the victim in at least three domestic violence cases involving Davis. Another ex-girlfriend had a restraining order against him, fearing he would harm her as well.

Detectives located Davis at a woman’s apartment in Minneapolis. She told officers they had met on a dating app about a month prior. She claimed Davis reached out that morning, asking to hide at her place, but would not say why he was running.

After his arrest, Davis allegedly admitted that he discovered Morris was cheating on him and claimed he had audio proof. He told detectives that an argument escalated into violence and described the attack in disturbing detail.

“I should never have done that to her… That was brutal,” Davis allegedly said during his interview. “She suffered, bro, she suffered.”

Following the murder, Davis reportedly lay with their daughter until she fell asleep before leaving the home and discarding the victim’s phone.

He is currently held in the Ramsey County Jail on a $2.5 million bond. His next court date is set for June 17.
