ROCKWALL COUNTY, TEXAS- A Texas woman is spending Mother’s Day behind bars after being convicted of sexually abusing her son’s 13-year-old friend in a case that shocked the Rockwall County community.
Natalie Sorrells, 46, was found guilty on two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and sentenced to a total of five years in state prison. The jury acquitted her on two additional counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to court records.
The disturbing allegations surfaced in 2023 after the victim’s mother discovered concerning messages between her son and Sorrells, prompting an investigation by the Rockwall Police Department.
According to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by KDFW, the investigation began when the victim’s mother discovered deleted text messages in which Sorrells referred to the teen as “babe.” Weeks later, the boy disclosed to his mother that he had been molested.
Authorities took the child to the Rockwall Children’s Advocacy Center, where he participated in a forensic interview. There, he detailed multiple incidents of inappropriate sexual contact initiated by Sorrells.
The teen recounted two specific encounters:
One occurred in Sorrells’ vehicle after she picked him up from a football game.
The other took place during her own son’s birthday party.
In both cases, the boy described sexual contact initiated by Sorrells. He also told investigators that during one encounter, Sorrells’ husband called her cellphone and asked if she was cheating on him.
Beyond the sexual abuse, the teen alleged that Sorrells frequently provided tobacco and alcohol to him and his friends, reinforcing concerns of grooming behavior.
Police arrested Sorrells in February 2024. She spent six days in jail before posting bond.
At the time of her arrest, Sorrells was a volunteer youth worker at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall. In a statement to KDFW, church officials emphasized that the alleged abuse did not occur during church-related events or on church property.
“While it is our current understanding that no inappropriate activity occurred on church premises or at any church event, and that the minor involved was not under the direct leadership of the volunteer, out of an abundance of caution we immediately informed Lakepointe parents, restricted the volunteer from any access to minors at the church and removed her from her volunteer position,” the church stated.
Following her conviction, Sorrells received two separate 2.5-year prison sentences to be served consecutively, totaling five years behind bars. She was not immediately remanded at the time of conviction but is expected to begin serving her sentence shortly.
Her attorney could not be reached for comment.
5 years is just a slap in the face. This woman should be serving way more time than this. There's no telling how many children she was grooming at the church and it just haven't came out yet. She's sickening and disgusting
Oh my goodness 😱she definitely was a groomer!!😳😳😳
