Toronto Police Arrest 16-Year-Old in Murder of 8-Year-Old JahVai Roy, Two Suspects Still Wanted

Toronto Police have confirmed the arrest of a 16-year-old boy in connection with the tragic homicide of 8-year-old JahVai Roy, who was killed by a stray bullet on August 16, 2025. Two other suspects remain at large.

The shooting occurred just after midnight in the Martha Eaton Way and Trethewey Drive area. Officers arrived to find the child critically injured inside his home. Despite emergency measures and a hospital transport, JahVai was pronounced dead.

On September 5, 2025, investigators located and arrested a 16-year-old male in Toronto. At the time of arrest, he had a modified automatic firearm. Police executed a search warrant at a residence, seizing additional items of evidentiary value.


He has been charged with:

  • First Degree Murder

  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm Without a License

  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm in a Vehicle

  • Converting a Firearm to Automatic

The teen appeared in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on September 6.

Police obtained judicial authorization to identify two other youths involved in the homicide. That authorization allows their names and images to be released until Friday, September 12, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.

Both remain outstanding, and police are urging the public to assist in locating them.


Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw emphasized the exhaustive efforts made:

“Every necessary resource was used to find the individuals alleged to be responsible for taking the life of JahVai Roy. No stone was left unturned.”

Inspector Ted Lioumanis added that the case relied heavily on “boots-on-the-ground tactics, video-gathering, and tireless investigative work”.

Detective Sergeant Jason Davis called the murder “a cowardly act of violence”, stressing the need for community assistance to bring the remaining suspects into custody.
