RUTLAND, OHIO- A quiet Amish community in southern Ohio has been shaken by the arrest of a man accused of murdering a young woman in her own home. Nearly a month after 28-year-old Rosanna Kinsinger was found dead alongside her pet goat, authorities have arrested 33-year-old Samuel Hochstetler and charged him with her murder.

The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Hochstetler, who had recently relocated to the area from Kentucky, was taken into custody on Monday, May 5, 2025. He had been living with a resident, Mose Troyer, in the weeks leading up to and following Kinsinger’s death. The arrest follows a persistent investigation that began on March 13, 2025 — the day Kinsinger’s body was discovered inside her home on Dye Road in Rutland.

According to investigators, deputies were dispatched to the scene for what was initially described as a “suspicious death.” Upon arrival, they found Kinsinger deceased in her home, along with her goat, which was also inside the residence. The Meigs County Coroner deemed her death suspicious and transferred her remains to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for a complete autopsy. However, the initial autopsy results were inconclusive, leaving many unanswered questions for the grieving community.

In a statement issued by Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch, he described Kinsinger as “a beloved individual in her community”. He acknowledged the emotional toll the tragedy had taken on those who knew her. “Detectives have worked around the clock searching for answers and were able to get those answers,” Fitch said. “Hopefully, this investigation helps bring closure to the victim’s family.”

The arrest came immediately after detectives interviewed Hochstetler on Monday. While officials have not released the specific evidence that led to the arrest, they emphasized the role of relentless investigative work and community cooperation. “Since the time of death, detectives have worked tirelessly executing search warrants, conducting interviews, and processing evidence,” the sheriff’s office stated. “Through these efforts, detectives were able to identify Samuel Hochstetler as a person of interest.”

Hochstetler’s connection to the victim and the motive behind the killing have not been publicly disclosed. However, his former host, Mose Troyer, shared with WSAZ that he and others in the community had become concerned when they hadn’t seen Kinsinger on the day of her death. Troyer was the one who discovered her body and called 911.

Troyer also expressed his distress at learning that the man now charged with Kinsinger’s murder had been living under his roof. “It’s deeply unsettling to know someone accused of something so horrific was living right in my home,” he said.

As the Amish community grapples with the grief and shock, many are looking for justice and healing. Hochstetler remains in custody as the investigation continues. In the coming weeks, further updates on potential court proceedings and charges are expected.
