A Florida man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting his wife multiple times as she tried to escape through a window, all while their young children witnessed the horrifying act. Authorities say the attack was fueled by suspicions of infidelity.
Rogelio Prestol, 46, is facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, 40-year-old Jhesandra Prestol, according to the Charlotte County Sheriffās Office. Deputies responded to the coupleās Port Charlotte home on Holtville Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday after Prestol himself called 911 to report that he had just killed his wife.
When paramedics arrived, they found Jhesandra lying facedown on the walkway outside the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two of the coupleās children reportedly witnessed the shooting, though they were physically unharmed. One of them told investigators that their "ears hurt" from being so close when their father opened fire.
A Deadly Confrontation Over Suspected Infidelity
During questioning, Prestolāafter being read his Miranda rightsātold detectives that he had been suspicious of his wife for the past two months, believing she was involved with someone she had met on TikTok and Telegram. When he confronted her about it, she reportedly asked for a divorce.
On the day of the tragedy, Prestol suspected that Jhesandra had been sending money to the person she was speaking with online. He demanded that she unlock her phone so he could check her messages, but she refused. In response, he allegedly pulled out a 9 mm handgun and pointed it at her, later claiming to police that he only intended to "scare her into complying."
Seeing the escalating situation, one of their children reportedly pleaded with Jhesandra to cooperate. Instead, she attempted to escape by climbing out of a window in the home office. Thatās when Prestol allegedly started shooting.
Jhesandra made it outside, but her husband followed her onto the front porch and continued firing "until he ran out of ammunition," according to the arrest affidavit. After the shooting, Prestol admitted to police that he never attempted to help his wife, saying he āknew she was dead.ā
She suffered gunshot wounds to her chest, back, arm, and buttocks.
A Chilling Aftermath
After the fatal shooting, Prestol reportedly called his brother, confessing to what he had just done and expressing an intent to take his own life. His brother persuaded him to surrender and call 911 instead.
When officers arrived, they took Prestol into custody without incident. He was booked into the Charlotte County Jail, where he is being held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
