The Madison County Sheriff's Office is investigating the devastating deaths of a Colbert couple that has been described as a tragic murder/suicide case. The couple, identified as April Kelley, 45, and Ricky Kelley, 48, was found deceased in their Brittany Point home, located west of the city limits and just north of Georgia Highway 78.
According to Sheriff's Capt. Jimmy Patton, it is believed that Ricky Kelley took his wife's life before ending his own, as indicated by the investigation. Deputies were called to the residence by family members, who discovered the distressing scene of two bodies on the floor inside the home. Autopsies have been ordered, and the crime scene is currently being processed, with all evidence pointing towards a murder/suicide.
The couple had been separated, with reports suggesting ongoing grievances between them. Two weeks prior to the tragic incident, a temporary protection order had been served against Ricky Kelley, at the request of April Kelley. She had informed deputies at the time that she planned to stay with her family. A court hearing addressing their issues was scheduled for October 21.
Family members were alerted to the situation after coming across a troubling Facebook video post by Ricky Kelley. Concerned for the safety of the couple, they proceeded to the home, where they found the doors locked. After entering the residence, they discovered the grim reality, prompting them to contact the authorities.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has dispatched a forensics unit to assist in processing the crime scene, aiding in the meticulous investigation being carried out by the sheriff's office. This tragic event serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities and challenges often present in domestic relationships, underscoring the critical importance of seeking help and support during times of distress. The community of Madison County mourns the loss of April and Ricky Kelley, grappling with the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident.
