Man Kills Neighbor in Vigilante Crash After Report on Child’s Abuse Case

A man involved in a fatal crash targeting a neighbor was found dead in jail after child abuse reports emerged.

COTTAGE GROVE, WISCONSIN - A quiet neighborhood in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, was left reeling after what authorities are calling a targeted act of vigilante justice. On April 28, 2025, 49-year-old Jeffrey Endres allegedly rammed his vehicle into a family of four walking their dog, killing mother Dr. Kami Ann Hansen, a respected chiropractor, and the family pet. The attack left Hansen’s teenage son and husband with injuries that were non-life-threatening. A second child, who witnessed the attack from across the street, was unharmed but traumatized.

Endres, who lived on the same street as the victims and was previously close to the Hansen family, had reportedly just received redacted police reports involving his child. The reports implicated Hansen’s teenage son in a juvenile court proceeding regarding the alleged victimization of Endres' child—a “sensitive crime” that remains under investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, Endres did not attempt to avoid the family as he barreled down Landmark Drive in a gray Chevrolet Traverse at what witnesses estimated to be at least 40 mph—well above the 25 mph speed limit. Hansen was thrown over 25 feet and later pronounced dead at UW Hospital. Her son suffered a severe arm laceration and concussion. Her husband, identified in court documents as PPH, escaped with minor injuries.

“He drove straight into us,” PPH told investigators, adding that Endres “never hit the brakes.” After the crash, Endres reportedly crawled from the overturned SUV and told police he was “having a bad day,” offering no further comment. Multiple witnesses—including a nearby Uber driver—confirmed the vehicle appeared to target the family deliberately.

Authorities charged Endres with first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. The criminal complaint revealed Endres was given copies of the police report concerning the alleged abuse of his child just three hours before the deadly crash, reinforcing investigators’ belief that the attack was premeditated and retaliatory.

The families had reportedly been close until the allegations surfaced in March 2025. Since then, they have not been in contact.

On May 6, just days after his arrest, Endres was found dead in his Dane County Jail cell. While authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, police noted that Endres had disclosed suicidal thoughts following the crash and had spoken to hospital staff about his declining mental state.

Prosecutors stated in court that Endres acted on vigilante motives, driven by rage after reviewing the graphic police descriptions involving his child. Law enforcement continues investigating the original juvenile case involving multiple middle school students, with several phones under forensic review.

The tragic sequence of events has devastated two families and raised serious concerns about the risks of personal retribution in emotionally charged cases involving juveniles.

If he did this to a family just imagine what he was doing to his own child. His home was probably a house of terror
