HOUSTON, TEXAS- A 23-year-old nursing student, just days away from graduation, was brutally stabbed to death in her Houston apartment, allegedly by her roommate during a heated argument over their cats, authorities confirmed.
Tamilore Odunsi, a native of the United Kingdom known online as Tami Dollars or TD, was found dead inside her apartment on April 26, 2025. According to the Houston Police Department, officers were dispatched around 4 p.m. for a welfare check at the city's southside residence. When officers received no response at the front door, they walked around the building and noticed blood on the concrete patio. Upon entering through the back, police discovered Odunsi in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside a bedroom, officers also found the suspect, 40-year-old Chester Lamar Grant, suffering from a self-inflicted stab wound. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition before being moved to the Harris County Jail on April 27. He has been charged with murder and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
Police say Odunsi and Grant had been roommates for only a few months when tensions escalated over their pet cats. Investigators believe the dispute turned violent, culminating in Grant allegedly stabbing Odunsi before attempting to take his own life.
The murder of Odunsi has sent shockwaves through the Houston community and online, where she had developed a following on TikTok for her faith-based and motivational content. Her family, devastated by the loss, launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her funeral and to honor her legacy.
“Tami was a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness,” the fundraiser reads. “She was just 23 years old. A devoted Christian, she was a God-fearing young woman who found strength and joy in her faith. She had a deep love for her church community, where she was actively involved and always eager to serve others with humility and grace.”
Tamilore Odunsi had dreamed of becoming a pediatric nurse. Her family shared that she was set to graduate from nursing school within days of her death—an achievement that would have marked the beginning of a life dedicated to helping others.
Chester Grant is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The case remains under investigation as the community mourns the loss of a promising young woman whose future was stolen by an act of senseless violence.
